Description:
Poinsettia ‘Rose and White’ is a cultivar of Euphorbia pulcherrima known for its striking bracts in shades of pink and white.
Bracts are modified leaves that resemble petals and surround the inconspicuous true flowers.
Typically grows as a small shrub, reaching a height of 0.6 to 4 meters.
Leaves are green, often tinged with red or purple at the edges.
The cyathia, or flower structures, are small and yellow and found within the center of the colorful bracts.
Known Range:
Native to Mexico and Central America.
Cultivated worldwide as an ornamental plant, especially during the Christmas season.
Care Requirements:
Light: Requires bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it may scorch the leaves.
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C) during the day and slightly cooler at night.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, but do not let it completely dry out. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity levels. Mist the plant regularly, especially during dry indoor conditions.
Soil: Well-draining soil is essential to prevent waterlogging.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
Pruning: Prune after flowering to maintain a bushy shape. Wear gloves, as the milky sap may irritate skin.
Propagation: Can be propagated from stem cuttings taken in spring or early summer. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and plant in a well-draining potting mix.
Pests and Diseases: Susceptible to aphids, whiteflies, and fungal diseases. Keep an eye out for signs of infestation or disease and treat promptly.
