Description: Phalaenopsis singuliflora is an epiphytic orchid known for its striking, singularly arranged flowers. The flowers are typically white or pale pink, with a distinctive, mottled lip that can range in color from yellow to purple. The plant has thick, fleshy leaves that are dark green and often have a glossy finish. The flower spike can grow up to 30 cm long, bearing one to several flowers at a time. The flowers are long-lasting, making this orchid a popular choice among enthusiasts.
Known Range: Phalaenopsis singuliflora is native to Southeast Asia, including regions such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. It is typically found in lowland tropical forests, growing as an epiphyte on trees.
Care Requirements:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves.
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Night temperatures should not fall below 60°F (15°C).
Humidity: Requires high humidity levels, ideally between 60-80%. Regular misting or the use of a humidity tray can help maintain appropriate moisture levels.
Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting medium is dry to the touch. Avoid letting the plant sit in water to prevent root rot. Reduce watering during the winter months.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced orchid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization to once a month during the fall and winter.
Potting Medium: Best grown in a well-draining orchid mix, such as a combination of bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss.
Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years to refresh the potting medium and accommodate growth. Repotting is best done after the blooming period.
